Practices

The designation process involves completing the following steps:

*Partners are not expected to begin this process without assistance and resources from the BFREE Team

Review New York State Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding, and Lactation Friendly Practice and Implementation Guide
Complete the online registration form
Complete the pre-assessment form
Fully implement the NYS Ten Steps
Complete the post-assessment form
Plan for redesignation in 5 years

Practices that achieve ALL New York State Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Friendly Practice will be recognized with a Certificate of Designation and designated practices will be listed on the NYSDOH’s public website. The certificate expires after five years. At that time, you will need to submit another post-assessment and updated office policy for redesignation.

It includes information on the levels of such substances in breast milk and infant blood, possible adverse effects in the nursing infant, and suggested therapeutic alternatives, where appropriate.
